Akmola Region, 21 October. In the Buiratau national park on the border of Akmola and Karaganda regions, a camera trap filmed a wild boar chasing off wolves; the video spread across Kazakh Telegram channels.
In the footage the boar charges at the pack, and the wolves do not engage but leave. This time it was the predators who had to run. Other outlets also published the scene: according to NUR.KZ, the wolves "did not argue and hurried away". Earlier another video, of a boar in the Ile-Balkhash reserve, became popular online.
An adult boar weighs more than a hundred kilograms and has sharp tusks, so wolves rarely attack one alone and usually choose easier prey — young or weakened animals. Camera traps in reserves help scientists study such behaviour without human interference.
What it means: A camera trap in Buiratau captured a rare scene in which prey puts predators to flight.
Who benefits: Such footage is needed above all by reserves and scientists, who use it to monitor wildlife, and it also draws attention to Kazakhstan's national parks.
Background: Buiratau national park lies between Akmola and Karaganda regions.
