Karaganda, 21 October. Construction of the first phase of Silumin Of Qazaqstan's high-pressure die-casting plant, which makes aluminium and bimetallic heating radiators, has been completed in Karaganda Region: investment exceeded 20 billion tenge, and design capacity at this stage is 5.5 million sections a year, the company said.
The radiators are sold under the company's own brand, norq, with six models in the range; the company plans to expand it, including with designer and exclusive models. The raw material is aluminium scrap: the plant has a full cycle, from processing raw materials and smelting alloys to high-pressure die casting, machining, assembly, painting and packaging. In pressure die casting, molten metal is forced into a steel mould with great force, so the part comes out dimensionally precise.
According to the company, the technologies used and the depth of processing have no equivalents in Kazakhstan or the CIS, and domestic raw materials are processed on equipment from leading global manufacturers. The statements did not say how many jobs the plant has created or at what price the radiators will be sold.
What it means: The region now has a plant that turns aluminium scrap into finished heating radiators; this is the first phase of the project, and the regional authorities link it to plans for an aluminium cluster.
Who benefits: The company and the region, which, according to its governor, wants investment to go into processing and finished goods; for buyers — radiators made in Kazakhstan. The sources give no estimates of the market or prices.
Background: Karaganda Region governor Yermaganbet Bulekpayev said that more than 800 billion tenge of investment had been attracted to the region since the start of the year, and that for the authorities it is "fundamentally important that the funds go not only into increasing production capacity but also into developing processing and producing competitive finished products". He also sees prospects for an aluminium cluster that would combine recycling of secondary raw materials, production of alloys and finished products.
