Abu Dhabi, 25 October. UFC President Dana White said the organisation is working on holding an event in Kazakhstan but gave no date.
The question came at the UFC 333 press conference in Abu Dhabi. "Very soon. We are working on it," the promotion's head replied. Kazakhstan is currently represented in the UFC by five fighters: Shavkat Rakhmonov (19-0), Asu Almabayev (24-3), Diyar Nurgozhay (12-2), Nikolay Veretennikov (14-8) and Alibi Idiris (10-1, 1 NC).
No month, no city, no opponents: for now Kazakh fans have only the word "soon".
What it means: The head of the biggest mixed martial arts league confirmed interest in Kazakhstan, but without a date or venue.
Who benefits: The UFC gets a new market with its own stars. Kazakh fighters get a chance to compete at home. Organisers and venue have not been named.
Background: The UFC is the world's largest mixed martial arts league. Shavkat Rakhmonov is unbeaten in 19 professional fights.
