Astana, 19 October. In September 2026 Kazakhstan produced 0.5 billion cubic metres of commercial gas, less than in any month for at least 15 years; output fell 4.3-fold compared with August and 3.3-fold compared with September last year, the First Credit Bureau calculated (Negeaqsha, FCB).

Commercial gas is gas that has been cleaned and prepared for delivery to trunk pipelines and consumers. The main decline was in West Kazakhstan region, which historically accounts for more than 80% of the country's commercial gas: in September output there fell 5.5-fold month on month and 4.2-fold year on year to 370 million cubic metres, while oil production fell 4.9-fold month on month to 206,000 tonnes (Negeaqsha).

The reason is scheduled maintenance at Karachaganak in September. It had earlier been expected that the monthly decline in oil production would not exceed 450,000 tonnes after the work was completed; no separate forecast for commercial gas output was published (Negeaqsha).

Background: In January–September natural gas production in Kazakhstan was 91.9% of last year's level and crude oil 91.7%, the Bureau of National Statistics reported (Dashimbayev).
