Astana, 19 October. The second phase of Astana's LRT will cover 20 stations on three routes, to Kosshy, the Zhagalau neighbourhood and Astana-1 railway station; the line to Kosshy could technically be completed in 2027, said Asylbek Duisebayev, chairman of City Transportation Systems (Sputnik Казахстан, Kazinform).

LRT, or light rail transit, means electric trains running on an elevated track above city streets, independent of traffic jams. According to Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek, 294 piers, or 97% of the total, and 385 viaduct structures (73%) have been installed on the route to Kosshy; concrete work at the three stations on this route, Nos. 401, 402 and 403, is to be completed by the end of 2026 (BES.media).

Eight stations will be built towards Zhagalau: surveys are complete, fencing is being installed and utilities are being relocated. Nine stations are planned towards Astana-1 station on the right bank, including interchange station No. 201; the interchange hub for stations Nos. 201 and 301 is being built along Syganak Avenue between Kabanbay Batyr and Turan avenues (BES.media).
