Astana, 20 October. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will deliver his annual State of the Nation Address on the morning of 28 October, he said on his page on X (formerly Twitter).

"I plan to deliver the annual Address to the people of Kazakhstan on 28 October in the first half of the day. I am working on the text of this important document," the head of state wrote. Other Kazakh outlets also reported the date.

The annual Address is the president's main programme speech: in it he sets out domestic and foreign policy priorities for the coming year and gives instructions to the government, and ministries then draw up a national plan to implement it.

The speech is a week away, and the head of state says he is still working on the text, so nothing has yet been officially announced about its topics.

Background: Tokayev announced the date on the evening of 20 October; on the same day he launched construction of the KAZ Minerals copper smelter in Abai region.
