Tehran, 21 October. The United States has agreed to the terms of Iran's "seven-day plan" but wants several additional points added to it, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with an Iraqi TV channel, IRNA news agency reports.
Which points Washington proposes to add is not specified. The statement came a day after Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said enriched uranium would not leave the country and that talks with the US were possible only after trust was restored.
The content of the "seven-day plan" is not disclosed in the report; if Washington really does accept its basis, it is a step by the sides towards each other.
What it means: According to Iran's foreign minister, the US has accepted the basis of Iran's plan, but bargaining continues: Washington wants to write its own conditions into it.
Who benefits: If the sides agree, Iran, which expects pressure to ease, and the oil markets, for which de-escalation around the Strait of Hormuz matters, would gain; for now these are one side's words, and there is no confirmation from Washington in the report.
Background: A day earlier Iran said it had shot down a US MQ-9 drone over Hormuz.
