Nagoya, 24 October. Kazakhstan's team finished the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, with 50 medals — 12 gold, 16 silver and 22 bronze — and ninth place in the overall standings, Sports.kz reported.

Kazakhstan was represented by 150 athletes in 12 sports. China topped the medal table with 435 medals, 207 of them gold. Japan came second (64 gold, 60 silver and 62 bronze) and Uzbekistan third (45 gold, 49 silver and 51 bronze). India was fourth and South Korea fifth, followed by Iran, Thailand and Indonesia, with Saudi Arabia rounding out the top ten.

Among Central Asian countries only Uzbekistan finished above Kazakhstan, with almost four times as many gold medals. Tajikistan finished the Games in 28th place.

What it means: Kazakhstan's para athletes made Asia's top ten, but the gap with the region's leader, Uzbekistan, remains wide.

Who benefits: The athletes, who won medals and a top-ten place; the national Paralympic team, which gains experience and ranking ahead of the next major events.

Background: The Asian Para Games are held every four years after the Asian Games in the same city.
