Almaty, 24 October. Yryssdaulet Baimukhanbetov, an eleventh-grade student at the Republican Physics and Mathematics School in Almaty, scored the maximum 1,600 out of 1,600 on the international SAT exam, the school said.
The SAT is a standardised test whose results are taken into account by many universities in the US and other countries for undergraduate admission. It tests reading and writing in English and mathematics; each of its two sections is scored out of a maximum of 800. According to the school, only a few test-takers achieve the maximum score.
Yryssdaulet plans to pursue engineering and is considering Nazarbayev University and universities in Asia and the US. Among his achievements is second place at Engineering Contest 2026. Besides his studies, he plays the piano, table tennis and swims.
What it means: A Kazakh student achieved the top possible score on the main American admission test, which opens the way to strong universities abroad.
Who benefits: The graduate himself gets a strong position for admission. The RFMSh gets confirmation of its level of teaching. Where he will apply has not yet been decided.
Background: The Republican Physics and Mathematics School is a state specialised school for children gifted in physics and mathematics.
