Bishkek, 25 October. Kyrgyzstan exported more gold by value in January–August 2026 than in the whole of 2025, with most of it, $741.3 million, in July and August, according to data from Kyrgyzstan's National Statistics Committee cited by Economist.kg.
In the first six months of the year the country sold only $29.3 million of gold, so exports in July–August were 25 times higher. For the whole of 2025 Kyrgyzstan exported $682.9 million of gold, according to the committee's annual summary. There were almost no shipments early in the year: from February to May, according to Economist.kg, the country sold no gold abroad at all.
Kazakhstan meanwhile remains the largest supplier of gold to Kyrgyzstan: in January–August 2026 it exported $293.6 million of gold there, the top destination for Kazakh gold abroad.
What it means: Kyrgyzstan held back gold for almost half a year and then sold more in two months than in the whole of last year.
Who benefits: Kyrgyzstan's budget and balance of payments get foreign currency. The buyers and the reasons for the pause are not disclosed in the data.
Background: Gold is Kyrgyzstan's main export; the main deposit is Kumtor.
