Voronezh, 26 October. Overnight on 26 October Ukrainian drones launched a massive attack on Voronezh and the surrounding region: two men were killed and 17 people injured, including a child, Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said.

According to the governor, 113 drones were detected over the region, more than 70 of them over Voronezh itself. "A significant number of the injured, including two seriously injured, were hurt on a train travelling through the left-bank suburbs of Voronezh when drone debris fell on it," Gusev wrote. Russian Railways said a carriage of train No. 11 Anapa–Moscow was damaged at Somovo station and five passengers were hurt. Traffic on the Tresvyatskaya–Somovo–Otrozhka–Voronezh section was halted because the overhead line lost power; after it resumed, 18 southbound passenger trains were delayed.

Several industrial plants, a business centre in the city centre, an apartment building, a school sports ground, two dacha settlements and a garage cooperative caught fire; damage to facades and windows, according to the governor, was recorded in almost every district of the city.

What it means: The strike hit residential areas of Voronezh and a passenger train on the main line linking southern Russia with Moscow; southbound trains were delayed because of the attack.

Who benefits: None of the civilians. The attack is part of the continuing war between Russia and Ukraine; the sides' agreements so far are limited to individual measures, such as a lull to evacuate residents of Oleshky.

Background: According to local authorities, the attack on the region lasted 10.5 hours; the governor did not say how many drones in total were launched at Russia overnight.
