Dushanbe, 26 October. Trade between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan exceeded 1 billion dollars in the first eight months of 2026, up 34%, while Kazakh investment in its neighbour's economy has topped 148 million dollars, said Kazakhstan's ambassador to Tajikistan Valikhan Turekhanov at a reception for Republic Day.

According to Tajik statistics, trade between the two countries in January–September amounted to about 1.13 billion dollars. The main product is Kazakh wheat: in nine months Tajikistan bought almost 998,200 tonnes worth 264.1 million dollars. Next come rebar, liquefied gas, aluminium oxide and vegetable oil. Tajikistan sells Kazakhstan lead ore and concentrate, unwrought lead, lime, exercise books, drinks, dried fruit and grapes.

The trade is almost one-way: in January–July Kazakhstan's exports to Tajikistan were 788 million dollars and imports 66.6 million. For Kazakhstan, Tajikistan is still a small market, about 1.5% of all exports, but for Tajikistan, Kazakhstan is the third-largest trading partner after China and Russia. The main reserve for growth is supplies of finished products and higher value-added goods.

What it means: Kazakhstan is increasing sales to Tajikistan faster than its overall trade with the CIS is growing and remains Dushanbe's main grain supplier.

Who benefits: Kazakh exporters of wheat, metal and gas; Tajikistan gains stable food supplies from its neighbour.

Background: Tajikistan has a population of more than 10 million. Its trade with Uzbekistan in the first eight months of 2026 amounted to 517 million dollars, half as much as with Kazakhstan.

Vision. Reality. Kazakhstan.
