Astana, 22 October. The Batumi Sea Port, owned by KazTransOil, handled 6.25 million tonnes of cargo in the first nine months of 2026, 13% more than a year earlier, with growth in dry, container, ferry and liquid bulk cargo, the company said.

Container traffic grew the most: 2.984 million tonnes, 17% more than in the first nine months of 2025. Ferry traffic rose by 54% to 402,000 tonnes, helped by an additional weekly ferry service between Constanța and Batumi. Dry cargo handling reached 1.434 million tonnes (+7%) and oil and liquid bulk 1.429 million tonnes (+5%).

What it means: The Georgian port owned by a Kazakh pipeline company is growing mainly on containers and ferries rather than oil: liquid bulk rose by only 5%.

Who benefits: KazTransOil as the port's owner and carriers moving cargo through Georgia to the Black Sea and on by ferry to Romania: the new Constanța–Batumi line accounted for a significant part of the growth in ferry traffic.

Background: Batumi Sea Port is on Georgia's Black Sea coast and is part of the group of KazTransOil JSC, Kazakhstan's national operator of trunk oil pipelines.
