Astana, 25 October. Qarmet and Allur have announced the Bolashaqqa Zhol programme for Republic Day, which in its first stage is to employ 500 young specialists from different regions of Kazakhstan at their plants, the companies said.

Corporate quotas will be created for participants. The programme is aimed primarily at university and college graduates, rural youth and young people from vulnerable families. They will be offered work in steelmaking, car manufacturing, engineering, automation and digital technology. Besides jobs, the programme provides training, mentoring and, for participants from the regions, help with relocation and housing.

The companies link the initiative to a shortage of skilled workers. According to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking on 24 September at the first session of the Kazakhstan People's Council, the country will need 2.9 million specialists by 2035.

What it means: Two major industrial holdings are taking on part of the task of training the skilled workers the President said the country lacks.

Who benefits: Young people from villages and low-income families get a first job with training and housing. Qarmet and Allur get trained staff for their plants. The companies have not said when applications will open.

Background: Qarmet owns the Karaganda steel plant and coal mines; Allur is Kazakhstan's largest car maker.
