Astana, 26 October. Overnight on 26 October the insulation of a ventilation system and electric cables caught fire on the roof of a five-storey hotel and bathhouse complex on Bogenbai Batyr Avenue in Astana's Saryarka district; rescuers led 60 customers of a café and billiard hall out of the ground floor, the Emergencies Ministry said.
The fire covered 10 square metres. It was put out after specialists from the regional power grid company cut the electricity to the building. No one was hurt. The ministry has not given the cause.
The evacuation was needed not because of the size of the fire but because cables and ventilation insulation were burning, and their smoke could spread through the building. The ministry reminds people that if they smell smoke or see fire they should call 112, leave the danger zone and follow rescuers' instructions.
What it means: A small roof fire at a venue with dozens of people inside caused no injuries thanks to a quick evacuation and the power being cut.
Who benefits: Nobody; the owners face repairs to the roof and ventilation system.
Background: This is not the first bathhouse fire in Astana: in June 2026 the roof of a single-storey bathhouse on Zhaiyk Street caught fire, with the blaze covering 50 square metres.
