Astana, 4 November, . The Kurultai will hold hearings on the digital transformation of the real sector of the economy as part of the Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence on 11 December and has set up a special commission of 19 deputies for the purpose, the Kurultai press service said.
The hearings will discuss the current state of digitalisation in industry, construction, transport, energy and agriculture, what holds it back and how to fix it. Heads of the relevant ministries and central government bodies, industry associations, business and independent experts have been invited. The commission includes representatives of all standing committees and party groups; it is chaired by Darkhan Akhmediyev, head of the committee on digitalisation, innovation and science. It was set up under clause 211 of the Kurultai’s rules of procedure.
What it means: Parliament is taking the digitalisation of economic sectors into a separate public discussion with ministers and business — a week after the Address that named the digital economy and AI as directions of transformation.
Who benefits: Industry companies and associations, which will be able to raise barriers to digitalisation directly, and developers of solutions for industry; whether the hearings’ recommendations will be binding has not been announced.
Background: On the same day, 4 November, the Kurultai approved an ADB loan and considered amendments introducing a single digital system in veterinary services.
