Jerusalem, 4 November, . Kazakhstan’s Food Contract Corporation is ready to discuss long-term contracts with Israel for the supply of 200,000 to 500,000 tonnes of milling wheat and other farm products, deputy chairman Samat Tenbayev said at a meeting of the Kazakh-Israeli intergovernmental commission.
The main issue is logistics. The Israeli partners were offered several options: a corridor through Azerbaijan and Georgia and routes through Baltic Sea ports; the choice will depend on freight costs, timing and commercial terms. It was the commission’s tenth meeting.
What it means: Kazakhstan is looking for new wheat markets and is offering Israel volumes comparable to annual shipments to major buyers, but everything hinges on expensive logistics.
Who benefits: Kazakh grain exporters and the transit corridors through the Caucasus; the price and timing of the first shipments have not been named.
Background: The Kazakh-Israeli intergovernmental commission meets regularly; this meeting was held in Jerusalem.
