Pavlodar, 24 October. A three-year-old girl in Pavlodar is in intensive care on a ventilator after she was taken ill during dental treatment at a private clinic on 21 October; law enforcement agencies are examining the circumstances, the Pavlodar regional health department said.
According to the department, the girl, born in 2023, was brought to the regional children's hospital at 15:45 on 21 October and, in an extremely serious condition, was admitted straight to intensive care, bypassing the admissions ward. On 22 October doctors held an online consultation with specialists from the National Research Centre for Maternal and Child Health and the National Research Cardiac Surgery Centre and agreed on treatment. A medical council meets daily, and the head of the regional health department has taken the case under personal control.
Relatives told Ulysmedia.kz that during the procedure the child's eyes rolled back and she had difficulty breathing, but the dentist, they say, continued the treatment, and an ambulance was called by a nurse from the next room only after the mother insisted. According to the family, the girl's heart stopped in the ambulance and again in hospital. The family does not know what treatment was given or what drugs the child received.
The clinic, according to Qumash.kz, said it was conducting an inquiry and declined to comment on the details of the treatment, citing medical confidentiality.
What it means: A child is in serious condition after a visit to the dentist; the family's account of the dentist's inaction has not yet been verified, and the investigation will give its assessment.
Who benefits: The sources do not name anyone responsible. For the family, it matters that the investigation establishes what drugs the girl received and why help was not given immediately.
Background: This is not the first case in Kazakhstan of a child ending up in intensive care after dental treatment, Qumash.kz points out. The clinic is on Lermontov Street in Pavlodar.
