Tashkent, 28 October. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced a new support system to bring back Uzbek doctors with experience in foreign clinics: they are guaranteed a job and a monthly bonus of up to 50 million soums, more than $4,000, Jas Alash reported, citing the president's press office.
Mirziyoyev announced the initiative on 27 October at a meeting with medical and pharmaceutical workers at the Kuksaroy residence in Tashkent. At the first stage the programme covers 26 national specialised medical centres, whose heads have been told to recruit 5–10 doctors with foreign experience each in 2027, meaning 130 to 260 specialists could return. Returning doctors will get modern equipment and be able to pick their own teams, and the state will pay for their participation in international conferences.
In addition, from 2027 the monthly bonus for doctors in remote districts will rise from 2 million to 4.5 million soums, and specialists who move there will receive a one-off 50 million soums. The state is allocating 50 billion soums to partly repay the mortgages of medics with at least 15 years of service, and the state will cover 25% of the mortgage down payment for 500 young medics a year.
What it means: Uzbekistan is betting on bringing back doctors who left to work abroad, offering bonuses comparable to foreign salaries, while also strengthening incentives to work in rural areas.
Who benefits: Doctors with foreign experience and medics in remote districts. Patients, if the specialists actually return to the national centres.
Background: In Kazakhstan the same day, the President ordered pay for district medics to rise by up to 40% from 1 January 2027, depending on length of service.
