Almaty, 30 October. Alatau City Bank has become the first Kazakh commercial bank to join the digital financial assets (DFA) platform of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange; at the first stage it will work only with corporate clients and tokenisation of real assets, the exchange said.

The bank plans tokenised bonds to raise investment and working capital, a regulated stablecoin in tenge and other currencies, tokenisation of deposits and bank escrow support for issues. Tokens may be backed by shares, bonds, currency, commercial property, commodities and equipment. “We see digital financial instruments as an opportunity to widen business access to financing and to make deal structuring faster and more convenient while keeping transparency and a clear legal basis,” said the bank’s chairman Anuar Kuandykov.

Alatau City Bank’s assets amounted to about 3.15 trillion tenge as of 1 October 2026, and the bank is among the country’s six largest. No dates for the first issues have been named.

What it means: Tokenisation — recording rights to a real asset as a digital token — is moving from fintech experiments to the work of a large bank that provides settlement and escrow support for deals.

Who benefits: Companies gain another way to borrow or sell a stake in an asset in small portions. The exchange gains its first bank on the new platform. The bank’s customers could see cheaper settlements from a future tenge stablecoin if the regulator allows it.

Background: A digital financial asset is a right to money, securities or property issued and recorded in a distributed ledger (blockchain); unlike cryptocurrencies, it is backed by a real asset and a known issuer. A stablecoin is a token whose price is pegged to a currency. Escrow is an account where money is held until the conditions of a deal are met.
