Yersai, 30 October. The first batch of equipment made in China for the new gas processing plant in Zhanaozen — furnaces, heat exchangers, tanks and electric heaters — has been delivered by sea to the port of Yersai in Mangistau region, KazMunayGas said.
Shipping began on 16 August; three more vessels are on their way, and further deliveries will follow the project schedule. Of 240 items of long-lead equipment, 138 are ready and 102 in progress, with overall manufacturing progress at 61.6%. The plant is being built by the modular method: the main process units are assembled at factories in China and brought to the site for installation, which shortens the timeline and the volume of on-site work.
The plant’s capacity will be 900 million m³ of natural and associated gas a year. It will produce marketable gas, liquefied petroleum gas and pentane-hexane fraction and supply gas to residents and companies in Mangistau region. KazMunayGas is implementing the project on the instruction of the Head of State; no commissioning date was given.
What it means: Mangistau region, which is short of gas, will get new capacity to process natural and associated gas close to the fields.
Who benefits: Residents and companies of Mangistau get locally produced gas instead of supplies from afar. KazMunayGas processes associated gas from Ozenmunaigas fields. The domestic market gets additional LPG while an export ban is in force.
Background: Associated petroleum gas is produced together with oil; without processing it has to be flared or reinjected. Pentane-hexane fraction is a feedstock for petrochemicals and a gasoline component. According to the Energy Ministry, Kazakhstan imported 6.4 billion m³ of gas in nine months of 2026, more than in the whole of 2025.
We have also reported that the ban on LPG exports may be extended for another six months.
