Astana, 30 October. KEGOC will sell its IT subsidiary Energoinform to Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu, part of the Samruk-Kazyna fund group, without disclosing the price, according to the company’s disclosure as retold by the qztrd Telegram channel.
Energoinform has operated since 2010 and is responsible for the information systems of KEGOC and participants of the unified power system, as well as for digitalising the energy market. In August KEGOC put 100% of the company’s shares up for electronic auction for 2.58 billion tenge, and repeat auctions followed; at the time the company explained that the asset had been deemed non-strategic and was being transferred to the competitive environment. The buyer in the end was a structure of the fund that owns 85% of KEGOC itself.
What it means: A non-strategic IT asset of the power system operator found no private buyer and is passing from one company of the fund to another.
Who benefits: KEGOC gains sale proceeds and gets a non-core asset off its books. The fund keeps control of the energy market’s IT systems. The private market for digital energy services never got the asset.
Background: KEGOC is Kazakhstan’s national grid operator and the system operator of the unified power system; its shares trade on KASE and AIX. Samruk-Kazyna Ondeu is part of the Samruk-Kazyna fund group. Transferring non-core assets to the competitive environment is part of the privatisation plan: state companies sell subsidiaries unrelated to their main business.
