Dakar, 2 November. Kazakhstan’s judoka Fatima Supygaliyeva won the Youth Olympic Games in the under-52 kg category: in the final she won early against Sofia Gaspar of Portugal, the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan reported.
The final ended with an ippon — a clean throw that ends a bout early — after 2 minutes 33 seconds. In the semi-final Supygaliyeva also won early, by ippon, against Vivien Vadovicova of Slovakia.
The 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games are being held in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly from 31 October to 13 November; Dakar has become the first African city to host Olympic Games. More than two thousand athletes are taking part, and Kazakhstan is represented by 18 athletes in 11 sports. Supygaliyeva and beach volleyball player Alikhan Agabek carried the team’s flag at the opening ceremony; both are winners of the 2025 Youth Asian Games in Bahrain.
This is not Supygaliyeva’s first gold this year. In August she won the world cadet championships in Ecuador in the same weight category: she won the final against Ukraine’s Kseniia Kirilchuk by ippon in extra time, the golden score, and became the first Kazakhstani woman to be a cadet world champion. At the Youth Asian Games in Manama her final opponent was Milena Borubolotova of Kyrgyzstan, and that bout also ended with an ippon.
Among other Kazakhstani results reported by the NOC, beach volleyball players Orazaly Sagynysh and Alikhan Agabek lost in the round of 16 to an Iranian pair 2–1 (19–21, 21–12, 15–13), and swimmer Anatoliy Rudenko finished sixth in the 200 m breaststroke final in 2:20.75; Japan’s Iori Miyazaki won in 2:12.33.
What it means: Within a year the judoka has won three major youth tournaments — the Asian Games, the world cadet championships and the Olympics — and ended all three finals with an ippon. Of Kazakhstan’s other results the NOC named the beach volleyball pair’s defeat in the round of 16 and swimmer Rudenko’s sixth place in the 200 m breaststroke; a medal table for the team is absent from its reports.
