Astana, 4 November, . The modernisation of 37 road border checkpoints will be completed by the end of 2027, first deputy prime minister Nurlybek Nalibayev said at a press conference in the Government.
Nalibayev gave the transport sector’s results: 712 million tonnes of freight were carried, 0.9% more than a year earlier, and about 1.5 billion passengers (+3.4%); rail transit freight grew by 15% to 33.8 million tonnes. Along the international road corridors, he said, 1,465 roadside service facilities operate, 221 of them built in the last three years: filling stations, hotels, shops and service stations.
What it means: The Government has publicly confirmed the checkpoint deadline the President set in the Address — the end of 2027 — and the new transport minister now works to that deadline.
Who benefits: Carriers and drivers who queue at the border, and the transit business Kazakhstan wants to earn from; the cost of the modernisation was not named at the press conference.
Background: In the Address of 28 October the President said that the reconstruction of checkpoints had until recently been slow and ordered it completed next year.
