Shymkent, November 5. Construction of a 6.4-kilometre railway spur serving the enterprises located there has been completed in the Zhuldyz industrial zone of Shymkent, the city administration reported: Shymkent Mayor Gabit Syzdykbekov inspected the results.

Besides laying the track, the asphalt surface was fully restored. The administration ties the project to the President’s Address, which stressed the importance of transport and logistics infrastructure, expanding the rail network and improving freight efficiency. The spur will simplify the delivery of raw materials and the shipment of finished goods, and the presence of a rail line, the administration believes, will make the site more attractive to investors and create conditions for new production.

What it means: The zone now has its own railway branch: enterprises no longer need to truck cargo to a station. The administration did not name the cost of construction or the list of enterprises that will start using the spur.

Who benefits: The zone’s enterprises, whose logistics costs fall, and the city, which hopes to attract new investors. The administration assesses the gain for potential tenants as a rise in the site’s attractiveness.

Background: A rail spur is a track that branches off the main line and ends at an enterprise: wagons are delivered along it directly for loading. An industrial zone is a territory with ready infrastructure for industrial enterprises.
