Uralsk, 15 October. The gas processing plant at Karachaganak with a capacity of 5 billion cubic metres of raw gas a year is planned to be commissioned in 2031, with early earthworks starting in 2027. Deputy Energy Minister Yerlan Akbarov said this at a meeting with residents of West Kazakhstan Region.
Design work and preparation for construction are under way at Karachaganak. The plant will be one of the largest projects of the region's oil and gas complex and is meant to increase commercial gas production for the domestic market. According to Kapital.kz, the project costs 1.7 trillion tenge.
At the same time, commissioning work is in progress on the sixth gas reinjection compressor at the field, which is needed to maintain production levels. The equipment is running in test mode and will be put into industrial operation in November 2026.
West Kazakhstan Region is among the most gasified regions of the country: at the start of 2026, natural gas was available to 99.7% of the population, more than 694,000 people in 372 settlements. At the meeting, residents asked about the quality of electricity supply in villages, gas supply to individual areas and how tariffs are formed.
On 15 October Akbarov also visited engineering plants of the region as part of the oil and gas engineering forum, which brought together about 800 participants; operators and domestic manufacturers signed contracts worth about 320 billion tenge.
