Astana, 4 November, . Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, chairing the board of directors of Samruk-Kazyna, criticised the management of the fund and its subsidiaries for delays in investment projects, the Government reported.

According to chairman Nurlan Zhakupov, in the first nine months of 2026 the fund’s revenue rose by 13%, net profit by 19%, and purchases from Kazakh companies by 45% to 1.4 trillion tenge. Sixty-nine large projects worth 43.8 trillion tenge are under monitoring, with construction under way on 44; most of the investment goes into oil and gas, petrochemicals and conventional power generation. Among the projects launched are a 380-km fibre-optic link with Azerbaijan, the fund’s first yuan bonds worth 3 billion yuan in Hong Kong and on the AIFC exchange, and traffic on the Darbaza–Maktaaral railway.

Bektenov ordered tighter control over the launch of generating capacity in Turkistan, Kyzylorda, Almaty and Ekibastuz and the construction of gas processing plants.

What it means: The fund’s financial results are growing while large construction projects lag, and the Prime Minister is demanding that deadlines be met above all for power plants and gas processing.

Who benefits: Regions waiting for new power plants and gas, and Kazakh suppliers whose share of the fund’s purchases is growing; the Government did not say which projects are late or by how much.

Background: A week earlier Samruk-Energy chairman Kairat Maksutov was dismissed; the Government explained the move by insufficient control over construction deadlines.
