Astana, 5 November, . The competition commission of the State Youth Prize “Daryn” has chosen 20 nominees, two in each of ten categories, the Ministry of Culture and Information said.
Minister of Culture and Information Arman Kyrykbayev took part in the meeting. This year 504 applications came in, 429 of which were admitted for consideration. Most applications came in the categories “Science” (119) and “Public activity” (75); “Theatre and cinema” had 58, “Folk art” 43, “Classical music” 30, “Literature” 23, “Variety” and “Design and fine arts” 22 each, “Sport” 20 and “Journalism” 17. Selection went in two stages: six sectional meetings were held from 27 to 29 October, followed by the final meeting. The commission included deputies of the Kurultai, representatives of state bodies, scholars, figures of culture, public figures, members of the Youth Policy Council under the President, entrepreneurs and representatives of the Presidential Youth Personnel Reserve.
By the editors’ calculation, competition for each of the twenty places is about 21 admitted applications. The solemn awards ceremony for the laureates will be held on 26 November. The prize was established in 1992 to support young people who achieved results in science, creative work, public activity and sport; over the years about 400 people have become its laureates.
What it means: The final choice of laureates is still ahead: 20 nominees are named now, and the ministry did not disclose names. The competition is densest in science: 119 applications for two places.
Who benefits: According to the ministry, talented and active young people of the country: the prize supports those who achieved results in science, creative work, public activity and sport. The names of the nominees are not in the text of the report; the minutes of the commission meeting are attached to it.
Background: “Daryn” means “gift”, “talent” in Kazakh. Sectional meetings are meetings of the commission on separate areas that prepare proposals for the final meeting.
