Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov on 15 October discussed with the leaders of Qatar's Power International Holding, Moutaz and Ramez Al-Khayyat, the progress of joint projects in gas processing and telecommunications. The focus was on the construction of two gas processing plants at the Kashagan field.
According to the Ministry of Energy, two gas processing plants with a capacity of 1 billion and 2.5 billion cubic metres of gas a year are planned at Kashagan. Construction and installation work is under way at the first one, and deliveries of the main equipment are almost complete. The first plant is scheduled to start in 2027.
Reports differ on the timing of the second plant: the government writes about completing the second stage in 2029, while several outlets name 2030. Bektenov stressed the need to step up joint work so that the facilities are commissioned on time and assured the investors of the government's help in resolving any issues. The holding's management confirmed its readiness to keep to the schedules.
The sides also discussed the second line of the Beineu–Bozoi–Shymkent main gas pipeline, in whose construction Power International Holding takes part, and cooperation in telecommunications.
Background
In 2024 it was reported that the first plant would cost investors $1 billion and the second $2–2.5 billion.
