Astana, 13 October. In January–September 2026 Kazakhstan produced 69.4 million tonnes of oil, 8.3% less than a year earlier. Deputy Energy Minister Yerlan Akbarov said this at a government meeting.
Production fell at the three largest fields: Tengiz produced 26.7 million tonnes (88% of last year's level), Kashagan 12.8 million tonnes (94%) and Karachaganak 7.5 million tonnes (82%). National Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin called the drop in oil output one of the factors holding back the economy.
To make up for the decline, planned maintenance at Kashagan and Tengiz was postponed; the Energy Ministry is negotiating with the operators on increasing output. According to Akbarov, the country's projected losses in oil production were cut from 5.9 to 1.9 million tonnes.
In August the forecast for 2026 was lowered to 96 million tonnes because of the attacks on the CPC; before that it stood at 98 million tonnes. Oil product output in nine months rose 2.4% to 11.9 million tonnes.
