Yerevan, November 6. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Assel Zhanassova, on a working visit to Armenia, discussed with Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan the transit possibilities of the TRIPP corridor for Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport said.
The sides spoke about developing the route, how to link it with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, known as the Middle Corridor, and how to integrate it into international transport and logistics networks. According to the Ministry of Transport, the corridor will open additional opportunities for Kazakhstan in the Eurasian transport system, help diversify routes and attract cargo flows. The ministry recalled that in the Address to the People of Kazakhstan the Head of State named the transport and logistics sector a strategic priority and set the task of strengthening the country’s position as a leading transit hub of Eurasia.
TRIPP, the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, is a transit corridor about 42 kilometres long through Armenia’s Syunik region: it is to link the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. It is provided for by the peace declaration of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed in Washington on August 8, 2025, Caucasian Knot writes. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared Kazakhstan’s interest in taking part on November 21, 2025 after talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, adding that linking the corridor with the Trans-Caspian route serves the interests of both countries, Interfax relayed.
What it means: At ministerial level Kazakhstan has confirmed its interest in the Armenian corridor as a continuation of the Middle Corridor. The Ministry of Transport names no cargo volumes, deadlines or terms of participation.
Who benefits: According to the Ministry of Transport, Kazakhstan: transit, diversification of routes and additional cargo flows. Armenia gains a partner for a corridor that is still to be built.
Background: The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, or Middle Corridor, is a road from China to Europe through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus bypassing Russia; it is about 6,500 kilometres long, Radio Free Europe notes. Nakhchivan is an exclave of Azerbaijan that does not border the country’s main territory: Armenia’s Syunik lies between them. Transit is carrying cargo through the territory of a third country.
