Astana, November 7. Kazakhstan’s Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov and Tajikistan’s Agriculture Minister Kurbon Hakimzoda agreed to step up work on increasing deliveries of Kazakh wheat to Tajikistan, including under the existing 100,000-tonne contract, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

The meeting took place during the visit of Tajikistan’s president, Emomali Rahmon. The contract was concluded by the Food Contract Corporation national company (Prodkorporatsiya) and Tajikistan’s Agency for State Material Reserves. So far 50,800 tonnes have been shipped under it, slightly more than half, according to another ministry release, in which Saparov discussed agricultural cooperation with Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, chairman of Sughd Region and first deputy chairman of Tajikistan’s Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli. An agreement was reached to step up work on increasing volumes “taking into account the needs of the Tajik market.”

The scale of deliveries can be seen in the ministry’s figures. In January–September 2026, trade in agro-industrial products exceeded $564 million, up 32.5% on a year earlier; Kazakh exports came to $550.2 million. In 2026 Kazakhstan has delivered about 1.1 million tonnes of grain to Tajikistan, including about 900,000 tonnes of wheat. Other goods include sunflower oil (83,000 tonnes in 2025, up 23%); rapeseed oil deliveries grew sixfold, soybean oil by 35% and meal by 23%. Exports of Kazakh lamb grew 26-fold in 2025 and beef twofold.

In 2025 all trade in agricultural products between the countries reached about $600 million (11% more than in 2024) and made up half of trade turnover. The sides confirmed their wish to move from trading raw materials to goods with higher added value. For this they plan to sign a roadmap on agricultural cooperation for 2027–2028: it covers crop production, seed growing and breeding, livestock productivity, and veterinary and phytosanitary safety. Hakimzoda visited the Rodina agrofirm, where he was shown a dairy complex with a robotic DeLaval rotary milking parlour for 80 cows which, according to the ministry, milks up to 2,000 cows in five hours with 12 people working a shift.

What it means: To the 100,000-tonne contract for the state reserve has been added an agreement to raise deliveries. Next to the 900,000 tonnes of wheat Tajikistan received from Kazakhstan in 2026, the 100,000-tonne contract looks like a small part of supplies. What is new here is the two sides’ public statement about expanding deliveries and writing it into a roadmap.

Who benefits: Kazakh grain farms and Prodkorporatsiya: the ministry itself calls “stable demand for grain” a benefit to farmers. Processing companies, at which the shift in the structure of trade is aimed. For the Tajik side, stable supplies of the main crop.

Background: Prodkorporatsiya is a national company that takes part in grain purchases for state reserves and in grain exports. On November 4 it offered Israel up to 500,000 tonnes of food wheat a year.

We have also reported on the Prodkorporatsiya offer to Israel and on the business forum of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
